The iPad Two
By JakeAuto
Although no real iPod Two models have been seen in public at the time of this writing, a number of mockups employed by accessory manufacturers have been seen. Based in changes seen in these mockups and rumors purported to originate from the Chinese manufacturing facility, specuators expect to see these new features in the Next iPad:
- Flatter, slightly thinner case, allowing it to sit on a table without rocking.
- Dual-facing cameras for video chatting, VGA res in front, 5 Mega pixel in rear.
- Larger, high fidelity speaker
- Higher resolution display, though processor limitations make a retina display unlikely
- USB port? this would be a break from Apple's approach, the new speaker opening may have been mistaken for a connector and SD card slot opening.
The Next iPad is expected to be announced by the end of January, with shipments beginning in late March or Early April.
It's reasonable to assume that since Apple ended their exclusive contract with AT&T, there will be three versions with different communication: the least expensive Wi-Fi, a Verizon compatible CDMA, and the GSM for AT&T service.
Another rumor suggests the Next iPhone might use a duel core processor, which would make the processing requirements of a retina display of around 2560 x 1920 pixels more manageable. Another feature that could be borrowed from the iPhone 4 design include gyro motion sensors.

Next iPad Mockups at the CES Show
A couple of different iPad Two mockups were spotted at the Consumer Electronics Show (CES) in Las Vegas, Early in January 2011.
The Gopod Mobile mockup mounted in their rechargable battery dock, was marked 128 GB, iPad 2.
Another manufacturer showed a protective plastic case that appeared to match this mockup, with cutouts for the rear camera and speaker grill.
The more flat conventional case design would appear to more easily accommodate electronic components.
Case Designs Give Away Too Much Information?
The Wall Street Journal reported that the Chinese Trade Site, Alibaba.com received a request to remove several products described as iPad Two Cases, perhaps they gave away too many Apple trade secrets about their unreleased product.
A Brief Look at the CES Mockup
An undisclosed source gave DigiTimes an estimate that iPad 2, shipments in 2011 will reach 40 million units, accounting for 65-75% of the global tablet PC market. Good luck to the Droid and Windows tablet makers.
